About Daffodil Preparatory School

Daffodil Preparatory School is an independent Islamic day school for boys and girls aged 5 to 11, at 161-163 Commercial Road in Tower Hamlets. We were founded in 2022 and teach classes of no more than 15, from Year 1 to Year 6.

We are part of Daffodil Education Group, which comprises two institutions: Daffodil Preparatory School and Daffodil Nursery. The nursery, for children aged 2 to 5, shares our site, so a child can join us at 2 and stay with us to 11. One setting, one journey.

Our Motto

Nobis Nitendum Est: "We must strive."

Three Latin words, and a whole approach to childhood. We ask children to strive: at the Qur'an, at maths, at reading, at being kind when it is hard. Effort is the habit we care about most, because it is the one that lasts.

Our Mission, in Plain Language

Many families we serve have lived a split day: school until 3.30, then a rush across town to the madrasah, then homework late. Our mission is to end that split. Your child receives the full National Curriculum, structured Qur'an teaching with a hifdh pathway (hifdh: memorising the whole Qur'an), and daily Islamic practice, all inside one school day.

Our vision is a child who leaves Year 6 secure in their faith, strong in English and maths, confident in front of others, and ready for secondary school.

Our Six Values

Excellence

We ask every child to produce their best work, whether that is a page of handwriting, a science investigation or a surah recited from memory.

Truthfulness

Children practise saying what is true, even when a small untruth would be easier.

Honesty

We teach children to own their mistakes and put them right, and staff model the same with parents.

Resilience

When a spelling test goes badly or a project falls apart, the lesson is the same: try again, and improve.

Integrity

We want children who behave the same way when no adult is watching as when one is.

Virtue

Good character (akhlaq) is taught and noticed daily: manners, gratitude, and care for others.

One Community, Many Backgrounds

Our families come from many backgrounds and heritages. That mix is part of daily life here. Children learn early that the ummah, like East London itself, is wide. You can read more about the neighbourhoods we serve on our community page.

Who leads the school

The school was founded by Anis Zaman, director of Daffodil Preparatory School Ltd, the company that operates the school. Our headteacher is Stephen Montford, who also serves as our Designated Safeguarding Lead and SENCO, and who personally hosts every school visit.

You can meet the wider staff on our team page and read how the school is overseen on our governance page.

Where We Stand

We publish our inspection history in full: every judgement, in plain English, with a link to the report. Read it on our Inspections & Standards page.

Come and See It for Yourself

A page can only tell you so much. Visits are individual, hosted by the headteacher, and booked into a set slot so you get proper time to ask questions.

Or call 020 4539 9737. Prefer to write first? Send us your question through the contact page. We reply within 24 hours.
