Our September 2025 Inspection
Ofsted carried out our first graded inspection on 23–25 September 2025. The findings, in order:
- All the independent school standards were met. These are the legal requirements every independent school in England must satisfy. They cover the quality of education, welfare, health and safety, suitability of staff, premises, and leadership.
- Safeguarding was judged effective. Inspectors examined how we keep children safe and found our arrangements work.
- Behaviour and attitudes: Good.
- Personal development: Good.
- Overall judgement: Requires Improvement.
Steps We Have Taken Since
We will not list promises here, only things that are already true and checkable:
We have moved to the ISI inspectorate. As a member of the Independent Schools Association (ISA), our future inspections will be carried out by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) rather than Ofsted.
We joined the Independent Schools Association (ISA), whose member schools commit to its standards of membership.
We run a structured assessment regime. All pupils sit the standardised national assessments, including the phonics screening check and Key Stage 1 and 2 SATs (the national tests taken in primary school), alongside internal weekly, monthly and termly assessments, weekly literacy and numeracy quizzes, regular one-to-one reading assessments, and half-termly parent–teacher meetings. Progress is measured constantly, not annually.
Safeguarding and SEND leadership is named and public. Our headteacher, Stephen Montford, is the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead and SENCO, and his contact route is published on our safeguarding and SEND pages.
How Independent Schools Are Inspected
Independent schools in England are inspected against the independent school standards set by the Department for Education. Two inspectorates do this work: Ofsted, which inspects most independent schools directly, and the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), which is approved by the Department for Education to inspect schools belonging to the associations of the Independent Schools Council, including the ISA, of which we are a member. Both check the same underlying standards; they use different frameworks and report formats.
Our September 2025 inspection was carried out by Ofsted. Our future inspections will be carried out by ISI.
