The Full National Curriculum, and More Besides
Your child follows the complete National Curriculum for England across Key Stage 1 (Years 1–2) and Key Stage 2 (Years 3–6): the same subjects, standards and national tests as any good primary school. Then we add what most primary schools don't: a structured Qur'an programme inside the timetable, Islamic Studies woven through the day, Latin for every pupil and reasoning lessons that prepare children for secondary transfer.
All of it happens in classes of no more than 15, so teachers know exactly where each child is. They can prove it too, with weekly quizzes and regular one-to-one reading assessments.
The National Curriculum, Subject by Subject
English
Reading, writing, spelling, grammar and spoken language, from early phonics in Key Stage 1 through to sustained independent writing in Year 6. Weekly literacy quizzes and regular one-to-one reading assessments mean no child's reading drifts unnoticed. Writing competitions and bookmaking projects give children real reasons to write well.
Mathematics
Number, calculation, fractions, geometry, measurement and statistics, building step by step towards the Key Stage 2 SATs (the national tests taken in Year 6). Weekly numeracy quizzes check that each step has stuck before the next one is built on it. Maths challenges and logic puzzles stretch children who are ready for more.
Science
Biology, chemistry and physics topics taught through observation, questioning and hands-on investigation in our own science lab. STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) is a deliberate focus of the school, in lessons and in our STEM challenges beyond them.
Computing and Design & Technology
Children learn to use technology purposefully and to understand how it works, from early algorithms and simple programs through to designing, making and evaluating their own projects. Our IT room supports regular, hands-on computing lessons.
Art & Design
Drawing, painting, making and the study of artists and designers. Art sits alongside music and drama in the life of the school, and children's creative work feeds into end-of-term projects and productions.
Geography
Place knowledge, physical and human geography, fieldwork and map skills, starting with the local area and widening to the UK, Europe and the world.
History
A chronological understanding of British and world history, brought to life through educational trips to museums and historical sites.
Physical Education
Regular PE develops fitness, coordination and teamwork, and the year includes sports days the whole school looks forward to. PE kit details are on our Uniform page.
Languages
Children study a modern foreign language (French, Spanish or Arabic), developing listening, speaking, reading and writing. Arabic carries a particular weight here: it is the language of the Qur'an your child is learning to recite and memorise.
What We Add to the National Curriculum
Islamic Studies, Woven Through the Day
Islamic Studies is not a Friday afternoon add-on. Children learn fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), hadith (the recorded words and actions of the Prophet ﷺ), sirah (the life of the Prophet ﷺ) and akhlaq and adab (character and manners). They then live what they learn, in daily adhkar and du'as and in salah prayed in congregation in our on-premise mosque. How faith runs through the school day
Basic Latin, for Every Pupil
Every child learns basic Latin. Not for tradition's sake: Latin is the root of the modern languages children go on to study, and it strengthens their command of English grammar. A child who has met Latin cases and verb endings understands their own language more precisely.
Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning
From word logic to pattern and spatial problems, reasoning lessons build the thinking skills that 11+ and secondary-transfer assessments test. Year 6 children walk into those assessments having practised the format for years, not weeks.
How We Know It's Working
The curriculum is checked constantly, not annually. Weekly quizzes in literacy and numeracy, monthly and termly assessments, one-to-one reading assessments and half-termly parent-teacher meetings keep every child's progress visible, to us and to you. Pupils sit all standardised national assessments, including the phonics screening check and Key Stage 1 and 2 SATs.
